Snoop Dogg Biopic Finds Its Suge Knight in Tre Hale (Exclusive)

Tre Hale, known for his work on the Netflix crime series Nemesis, has secured the role of Suge Knight in the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic titled Snoop. The film is in active casting preparations ahead of a mid-September production launch in the Los Angeles area.

Jonathan Daviss, recognized for his starring role in the Netflix series Outer Banks, will portray Snoop Dogg, the Long Beach-based rap artist who rose to prominence during the 1990s and became one of hip-hop’s most influential figures. The production has assembled a supporting cast to depict key figures in Snoop Dogg’s life and career, including Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as rapper Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, and Lauren London as Snoop Dogg’s mother.

Suge Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records, was instrumental in bringing rap and hip-hop to mainstream audiences through the label’s roster of artists. The label’s decline was attributed to multiple factors, including the departures of major artists such as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre in the late 1990s. Knight was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 28 years in prison for manslaughter following a fatal hit-and-run incident in 2015 near a promotional event for the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

Director Craig Brewer is helming the project, with production support from Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, the producer behind the Eminem drama 8 Mile, and Allan Mandelbaum. Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker are also credited as producers. Universal Pictures will distribute the film, with a theatrical release scheduled for Aug. 6, 2027.
