Sunbird Messaging has returned to the Google Play Store, providing Android users with access to iMessage messaging capabilities, including blue bubble functionality, message reactions, and high-quality video support. The service operates on a subscription basis at $2.99 per month.
The application previously ceased operations nearly three years ago following security vulnerabilities. The company states it has addressed these concerns through an overhauled infrastructure design. According to the relaunched service, messages are encrypted on users’ devices before transmission, protected during transit via certificate-pinned connections, and encrypted at rest on devices using AES-256 encryption. Media files sent or received through the platform are automatically deleted within 48 to 72 hours. On the final transmission stage to iPhones, messages receive Apple’s iMessage end-to-end encryption, which Sunbird states it does not modify, intercept, or weaken.
Sunbird’s CEO Danny Mizrahi indicated that an independent security auditing firm evaluated the rebuilt application and identified no critical vulnerabilities. Mizrahi also specified that when users connect their iMessage accounts, their Apple ID password is used solely for initial session setup and subsequently destroyed, with no password storage or authentication token retention that would enable future unauthorized access.
Beyond iMessage integration, the application provides access to Google Messages and SMS services. The company plans to introduce support for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger later this year, along with an artificial intelligence assistant capable of summarizing conversations and drafting message responses. The relaunch represents an effort to provide Android users with improved cross-platform messaging compatibility, addressing ongoing challenges that occur when Android devices participate in iMessage group conversations.
