Cwmbran Celtic AFC, a Welsh grassroots football club based in Torfaen, has announced a sponsorship arrangement with four musical acts for the 2026/27 season. Super Furry Animals, Panic Shack, Mogwai, and Loose Articles will appear on the front of the men’s and women’s first-team home and away shirts.
The initiative emerged from conversations between the club’s joint commercial managers Matt Jarrett and Connor Cupples, who both have connections to the Welsh music scene and previously organized concerts together. The pair approached the bands with the concept of linking grassroots football and grassroots music, framing both communities as facing similar challenges. Super Furry Animals had previously appeared on a Cardiff City shirt in 1999. The group agreed to participate in the project, with frontman Gruff Rhys noting the club’s historical connection to the band’s touring equipment.
Loose Articles became the first band to commit to the partnership, partly due to the drummer’s family connection to Cwmbran. Panic Shack, another Welsh act, also participated. Glasgow-based post-rock band Mogwai, who are Celtic supporters, will feature on the men’s away kit. The commercial managers contacted several bands through existing relationships and mutual connections to assemble the final roster.
Revenue generated from kit sales will primarily support Cwmbran Celtic AFC’s operations, which include six senior teams, veterans’ squads, walking football programs, and junior development. Additionally, 10% of profits will be directed to Music Venue Trust, a UK charity established in 2014 to support grassroots music venues. Club officials described the arrangement as a mutual support mechanism between two grassroots sectors, emphasizing their shared dependence on community engagement and limited resources.
