‘Tall Tales & Murder’ First Look: Ella Lily Hyland and Aidan Gillen Star in Wild Comedic Crime Drama From ‘Veep’ Director and ‘Love/Hate’ Creator (EXCLUSIVE)

The BBC and RTÉ have announced details for “Tall Tales & Murder,” a forthcoming dark comedic drama series set to air later this year. The six-episode production comes from Stuart Carolan, creator of “Love/Hate,” and Chris Addison, a director and Emmy and DGA award winner from “Veep.” The series was previously announced last year and filmed in Ireland.

The show follows an unconventional premise that blends a contemporary crime narrative with historical storytelling elements. The main storyline centers on Bridget, a night shift nurse at a Dublin nursing home portrayed by Ella-Lily Hyland of “Black Doves,” who orchestrates secret activities including bedtime stories and clandestine dances for residents. Her world intersects with Paul, a young man entangled in debt to a crime boss, who takes a position at the same facility. The situation becomes complicated when a mysterious comatose patient, played by Aidan Gillen, awakens and reveals himself to be a gangster with knowledge of hidden Celtic gold.

The cast also includes Brian Doherty as an unconventional detective, Philippa Dunne as a crime boss, Aisling O’Sullivan as the nursing home’s matron, and Packy Lee as a rival gangster. Casey Walsh makes his television acting debut in the series. The production is a co-commission from BBC Northern Ireland and RTÉ in association with Screen Ireland, produced by Avalon in partnership with the Ireland-based Metropolitan Pictures. The show draws inspiration from Caimh McDonnell’s nine-book series. It will air on BBC One and BBC One Northern Ireland and will be distributed internationally by Avalon.
