Toei, Shochiku, Kadokawa Among IP Holders Set for TIFFCOM’s Tokyo Adaptation and Remake Market

Eight Japanese publishers, studios and production companies plan to present intellectual property opportunities to international buyers at the second edition of Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake, which runs October 28-30 during TIFFCOM 2026 in Tokyo. The event will feature one-on-one business meetings and open pitching sessions at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-Kan, with producers from Hollywood, Europe and Asia expected to attend.

Participants include Amuse Creative Studio, Kadokawa, Nihon Bungeisha, Nippon Animation, Shochiku, Shufu to Seikatsu Sha, Square Enix and Toei. The eight-company roster represents an increase from the six IP holders that participated in the market’s inaugural edition last year. The platform originated from the Tokyo Story Market, which launched at TIFFCOM in 2023 and focused specifically on screen adaptation rights for Japanese manga and novels. The service was rebranded as Tokyo IP Market in 2025 and expanded to include film studios and production companies alongside publishers.

Notable participants bring substantial catalogues and track records. Shochiku operates a library spanning from classic films by director Yasujiro Ozu to contemporary genre productions. Toei has previously licensed intellectual property for overseas adaptation, including “Power Rangers” and “Yolo,” and emphasized its international production team’s availability for remake licensing and co-production discussions. Square Enix brings manga and game titles that have already generated anime, television and film adaptations, including “Fullmetal Alchemist,” “Soul Eater” and “Kakegurui.” Nihon Bungeisha will present “Gannibal,” a horror property.

The Tokyo IP Market event takes place during TIFFCOM’s 23rd edition and runs alongside the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, which opens October 26. The platform previously expanded internationally this past May when seven companies presented at the Cannes Film Market under the Japan IP Market banner.
