The company shares its alert data with traffic management centers and other vehicle manufacturers, extending the safety benefits beyond Volvo-branded vehicles. This connected vehicle approach differs from crowdsourced alert systems employed by navigation platforms like Google Maps and Waze, instead relying on direct vehicle-to-vehicle communication through cloud infrastructure.

Volvo has employed connected vehicle technology for hazard warnings since 2016, operating a cloud-based system developed with Ericsson that alerts drivers to slippery road conditions based on steering, braking, and acceleration sensor feedback. The system also notifies nearby vehicles when another car activates hazard lights, indicating a potentially dangerous driving situation.

Separately, Volvo announced that the EX90 will receive Spatial Audio support for Apple CarPlay users, enabling a multi-dimensional audio experience that positions music and vocals throughout the vehicle cabin.
