The independent film “A Teacher’s Gift” has announced a U.K. theatrical distribution agreement with Peccadillo Pictures, an established distributor focused on LGBTQ+ and world cinema releases. The deal establishes the film’s eligibility for consideration at the British Independent Film Awards.
Directed by Artur Ribeiro from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rajdeep Choudhury and Will D. Parry, the production was shot in the Midlands region with involvement from the Wolverhampton-based company New Lion Films. The project received backing from India’s National Film Development Corporation and British-South African entrepreneur Richard Murray, with producer Eric Ollerenshaw overseeing the effort. The cast includes Rajdeep Choudhury, Anthony Calf, Anjali Patil, Paula Lobo Antunes, Dhruv Sehgal, Virgilio Castelo and Varun Buddhadev.
The narrative follows Rohan, a Hindi teacher navigating competing pressures between family obligations and personal aspirations, whose life intersects with that of an older English man through shared interests in literature and cricket. Their deepening connection becomes a catalyst for both characters to confront fundamental questions of identity and belonging, with the story exploring these themes across locations in London and India while examining relationships within Britain’s South Asian community.
Prior to this distribution announcement, the film built a notable festival presence, premiering at Tribeca Festival Lisboa and subsequently playing venues including the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival, where it received a nomination for best feature, and the Unrestricted View Film Festival. The project also screened at the 56th International Film Festival of India and the Guadalajara International Film Festival, where it competed for the Premio Maguey.
Peccadillo Pictures is scheduled to release “A Teacher’s Gift” theatrically across the U.K. in mid-November.
