American Airlines announces Trump Accounts matching program

American Airlines disclosed plans to establish a matching contribution program for Trump Accounts, also referred to as 530A accounts, available to families with children under age 18. The airline will provide a one-time $1,000 match for the federal government’s $1,000 seed deposit made to eligible accounts.

Trump Accounts are available to parents and guardians of children born between 2025 and 2028. Upon account opening, beneficiaries receive the $1,000 initial Treasury deposit automatically. Account holders can subsequently make contributions up to $5,000 annually until the year before the beneficiary turns 18. The accounts operate on a tax-deferred basis, allowing funds to accumulate without immediate tax consequences.

American Airlines’ initiative represents part of a broader corporate trend toward supporting the accounts. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, more than 50 companies have committed to contributing to Trump Accounts in various capacities. Notable financial institutions including Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have pledged to fully match the government’s $1,000 seed contribution.

The airline plans to expand its program next year once pending Treasury Department regulations finalize. Beginning in 2027, eligible employees will be permitted to direct up to $2,500 of pretax earnings annually toward their dependent children’s accounts through payroll deduction. Approximately one-third of the company’s roughly 140,000 global workforce will have access to this pretax contribution option. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent characterized corporate participation in the program as a positive development for families seeking to build savings for their children.
