Apple TV confirmed that the Jessica Chastain thriller series “The Savant” will premiere in Spring 2027, following a lengthy delay that began when the company postponed the show’s scheduled release in September 2025, just days before its planned premiere.
The streaming service initially withdrew the series following the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, issuing a statement about the postponement without providing specific details about the reasoning. Chastain, who serves as both star and executive producer, publicly disagreed with the decision, arguing that the show’s subject matter—about efforts to prevent domestic violence and terror attacks—had become increasingly relevant given incidents of political violence in the United States over the preceding years.
The character Chastain portrays, Jodi Goodwin, is a veteran who infiltrates online forums where white supremacists gather. The series was adapted by creator Melissa James Gibson from a 2019 Cosmopolitan article about preventing mass shootings. The show’s fate remained uncertain for months, with Chastain expressing hope for its eventual release while Apple TV offered no concrete timeline.
Speculation about the premiere date persisted throughout the intervening period. Apple TV insiders suggested various windows, including winter or early spring of 2026, potentially paired with other series featuring female leads. In April, Chastain told Variety that a premiere date would be announced, and sources indicated a July release. That date also passed without announcement.
The decision to schedule the release for Spring 2027, notably after the midterm elections, appears to reflect Apple TV’s caution regarding the show’s political content, despite assessments that the series would have minimal impact on electoral outcomes. Apple TV’s website continued to list the series as “coming soon” into 2025 before the recent scheduling announcement.
