TIFFCOM, the content market held alongside the Tokyo International Film Festival, will feature a keynote presentation by Chris Brearton and Dominic Hughes from AGBO, the studio founded by Anthony and Joe Russo. The session, scheduled for October 29, is titled “Technology and Storytelling” and will be moderated by Naman Ramachandran, Asia editor at Variety.
The discussion will explore how artists collaborating with technologists can utilize AI, machine learning, and other digital tools to enhance and advance creative storytelling. Brearton previously served as VP of corporate strategy at Amazon MGM Studios, where he oversaw the integration of MGM into the larger company. Hughes brings expertise in algorithms, machine learning, and AI, working with AGBO’s creative and innovation teams to guide the development and use of AI technologies in the storytelling process.
AGBO has generated over $7 billion at the global box office and produced 17 worldwide debuts that reached the number one position, including “Avengers: Endgame.” The studio is currently in post-production on “Avengers: Doomsday,” scheduled for release later this year.
The keynote marks the beginning of TIFFCOM’s second wave of confirmed programming. Additional sessions include presentations on Japanese animation’s global expansion, international anime co-production financing, and showcases of various studios’ upcoming projects and intellectual property strategies. The market will also welcome new participants including digital comics publisher Comisma and toy company Takaratomy.
TIFFCOM 2026 runs from October 28-30 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-kan, concurrent with the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, which operates from October 26 through early November.
