Watermelon Pictures announced the acquisition of “Everything Is Not OK,” a documentary directed by Dev Benegal that examines the life and work of artist Judith Blum Reddy. The film will premiere exclusively on Watermelon+, the distributor’s streaming platform.
The documentary follows Reddy’s artistic practice, which has been informed by her experiences during the Holocaust and various relocations across New York, Paris, and India. The film contextualizes Reddy’s work alongside that of artists Nil Yalter, Zarina, and Camille Billops, each of whom similarly transformed experiences of displacement into their artistic output. The narrative also incorporates voices of Palestinian, Kashmiri, and Indian poets, positioning the work as an exploration of memory, erasure, and artistic expression as a form of resistance.
The production team consists of Maya S. Patel and Neeraj Jain of Min(d) Studio serving as producers, alongside Benegal. Filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, known for “Palestine 36,” joined as executive producer and also contributed voice readings of revolutionary poetry alongside actor Adam Bakri. The technical crew includes cinematographer Jean-Luc Panda, editor Mona Gesbel, composer Dhruv Goel, sound designer Anurag Jadhao, and colorist Rob Sciarratta.
Benegal is an established director whose previous credits include “English, August” and “Road, Movie.” A restored version of “English, August,” completed by the Film Heritage Foundation, screened at the Venice Film Festival. Watermelon Pictures, founded in 2024, has built a catalog including several Academy Award-nominated and shortlisted titles. The company launched its Watermelon+ streaming platform in May 2025, marketing it as a comprehensive collection of Palestinian cinema.
