Electric Trucks Will Take Center Stage At IAA Transportation Show In Hannover This Week

The IAA Transportation exhibition is set to open this week in Hannover, Germany, bringing together the commercial vehicle industry to showcase electric truck developments. More than 700 exhibitors will participate in the event, presenting electric vehicles across three primary categories: heavy duty tractors, medium duty work trucks, and delivery vehicles used by small businesses.

Established European manufacturers including Daimler, MAN, Volvo, and Renault will display their latest electric tractor models. Ford’s Otosan division, based in Turkey, will present an electric truck for the first time at the show, featuring its F-Line E model with 19- and 26-ton capacity options. German automotive industry leaders have emphasized the importance of regulatory support and infrastructure development to facilitate the transition to zero-emissions commercial vehicles, with manufacturers highlighting their innovative capabilities and the essential role logistics plays in the European economy.

Chinese manufacturers will have a substantial presence at the exhibition, with companies including Sany eTrucks, Sinotruk, SuperPanther, Skyworth Auto, FAW Trucks, Dongfeng, Foton, Farizon, Wisdom Motor, and DeepWay all scheduled to present vehicles. Skyworth Auto plans to introduce autonomous driving features in its heavy duty offering. Battery manufacturer CATL will showcase battery innovations designed for commercial vehicle applications.

Tesla’s Semi is expected to draw considerable attention at the show. The European version will feature three motors across two rear axles with output up to 800 kW, operating on an 800-volt architecture with a 548 kWh battery. Tesla Germany estimates a range of 550 kilometers for the European model and highlights the vehicle’s charging capabilities, lower operating costs compared to conventional trucks, and reduced maintenance requirements as key advantages for logistics operators.

Ford Pro will debut its new battery electric Transit City model at the exhibition.
