France TV Distribution has announced that ‘Our Missing Sons,’ a four-part French mystery drama, will debut at the international sales market Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre before premiering at the Festival de la Fiction in La Rochelle. The series, directed by Safy Nebbou, is based on the novel “Les Disparus des Argonnes” by Julie Pey, who co-wrote the script alongside Nebbou and Mary Arnaud.
The narrative centers on Jocelyne Veyrades, portrayed by Alix Poisson, as she investigates the unexplained disappearance of her son Gilles during his military service. Rather than accepting the official explanation that he deserted, Jocelyne pursues an independent inquiry and uncovers that multiple young military personnel have vanished in the same region. Facing institutional obstruction and disinterest from military and police authorities, she collaborates with other affected families to pursue the matter publicly.
Produced by Studio 14 Films, the series draws inspiration from the real-world Mourmelon case of the 1980s, in which numerous conscripts disappeared over several years. However, Nebbou emphasized that the production departed significantly from historical specifics to develop original characters and storylines. The drama explores themes including institutional accountability, family persistence, and previously marginalized societal issues, with a female protagonist whose determination mirrors characteristics Nebbou described as similar to investigative persistence.
