HIVE brings in enterprise veteran to scale BUZZ HPC's AI cloud business

HIVE Digital Technologies, a Nasdaq and Toronto Stock Exchange-listed Bitcoin miner and data center operator based in Canada, announced the appointment of Mark Volk to the position of Senior Vice President of Revenue at BUZZ HPC, its wholly owned artificial intelligence cloud and high-performance computing subsidiary.

Volk’s role focuses on building BUZZ HPC’s revenue operations and expanding them internationally. He will oversee the company’s market strategy across enterprise, government, sovereign AI, hyperscale, research and academic sectors, managing commercialization of its GPU infrastructure offerings, which include sovereign AI cloud services, GPU-as-a-Service, colocation and hybrid AI solutions. The executive brings approximately 30 years of experience in AI, high-performance computing, cloud infrastructure and enterprise solutions.

Volk is not new to HIVE’s operations, having served as a consultant to the company for roughly nine months prior to his formal appointment. During that consulting period, he assisted in developing BUZZ HPC’s current GPU cloud demand pipeline. Previously, he held the position of CEO at CiphexAI Corporation. His background also includes five years at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where he led commercial efforts that grew HPE’s HPC and AI business by approximately 425% to more than $2 billion in revenue, serving government, enterprise, research and academic customers throughout the Americas. At IBM, he managed a portfolio valued at approximately $1.2 billion and oversaw the launch of the company’s first HPC Cloud SaaS offering, which grew roughly 200% in under two years.

BUZZ HPC has secured more than $600 million in total contract value for GPU cloud deals year to date, encompassing three- and five-year agreements with creditworthy partners, with its demand pipeline valued at exceeding $1 billion in total contract value potential. On August 17, BUZZ HPC signed a five-year, $350 million AI cloud services agreement with an unnamed investment-grade enterprise customer, representing its largest single transaction to date. HIVE exceeded $1 million in daily revenue on August 21 from combined hashrate and GPU cloud services while producing an average of approximately 12 Bitcoin per day, representing roughly 2% of global Bitcoin network production. The company plans to discontinue Bitcoin mining at its Swedish facilities, which accounted for less than 5% of daily revenue in August, while evaluating conversion of that infrastructure for HPC and AI purposes.
