Badlands, a genre-focused production label operated by Scott Strauss and affiliated with Thunder Road through producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, has secured the rights to an action-horror screenplay titled Wildman.
The script, penned by Jacob Reiner, follows a premise in which a Bigfoot character embarks on a violent mission to recover his deceased younger brother’s body while eliminating those responsible for the death. The project has been characterized as combining elements of the John Wick franchise with Bigfoot mythology. Reiner, a Texas-based writer, developed the script and entered it into the Blood and Ink screenwriting contest hosted on Scriptshadow.com, a platform focused on screenwriting craft. Contest curator Carson Reeves identified Wildman as a standout entry, which subsequently drew interest from manager Jake Wagner at Alibi Entertainment. This represents Reiner’s first professional screenwriting deal, with Reeves attached to serve as an executive producer.
Badlands is currently preparing for its initial theatrical release with Crawlers, a spider invasion horror film directed by Angel Hernandez Gomez and starring Matilda Lutz, scheduled for U.S. release on Oct. 16 through Roadside Attractions and Saban Films. The production company, backed by Renegade Capital principals Andrew Schwartzberg and Jon Shiffman, also has multiple projects in various stages of development, including Gomez’s Dangerous Games to Play and Hong Won-Ki’s Perfect Girl currently in post-production, while Ciaran Foy’s Hivemind and Luke Piotrowski’s Blasphemous are scheduled to enter production this fall.
