The Savannah College of Art and Design announced that Julianne Moore will be honored with the Icon Award at its upcoming film festival. The ceremony will feature “The Dead Donkey,” a musical comedy distributed by A24 and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, as the festival’s centerpiece selection.
The festival will open with “A Talent for Murder” from Bleecker Street, directed by Anton Corbijn and starring Helen Mirren, who will also receive recognition. “The Dead Donkey” reunites Moore with Eisenberg following his 2022 directorial debut, “When You Finish Saving the World.” Eisenberg both writes and directs the film and composed its original songs. The cast includes Paul Giamatti, Halle Bailey and Bernadette Peters. The project held its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival before screening at TIFF.
Moore’s career includes an Academy Award for best actress for “Still Alice,” along with four additional Oscar nominations. She has also won Golden Globe, BAFTA and Emmy awards. Following the festival, Moore is scheduled to return to Broadway for the first time since 2006, taking the title role in Sarah Ruhl’s “Faydra,” a contemporary adaptation of the Greek myth of Phaedra, directed by Les Waters for Manhattan Theatre Club, with opening night set for February 25.
