French filmmaker Olivier Assayas has announced his next directorial project, “Spiritual World,” featuring an international cast led by Kristen Stewart, Riley Keough, Vicky Krieps, and Wagner Moura. The production also includes Barbara Sukowa and Niels Schneider in supporting roles.

Production is scheduled to begin in February in locations across France and Germany. The project reunites Assayas with producer Olivier Delbosc, the pair having recently collaborated on “The Wizard of the Kremlin,” a political thriller that premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Franco-German television network Arte France is providing co-financing for the film, which is currently in development without a French studio partner.
Assayas, recognized as one of Europe’s leading contemporary directors, has built a career working across European and international productions spanning multiple genres. His recent work includes the HBO series “Irma Vep” and the espionage thriller “WASP Network.” Stewart has continued expanding her career through directing and acting, having made her directorial debut with “The Chronology of Water” at Cannes last year and recently appearing in Quentin Dupieux’s “Full Phil.”
