Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has disclosed findings from an ongoing review indicating that 209 patients experienced harm under the care of orthopaedic surgeon Kuldeep Stohr. According to the report, 41 of these cases were classified as severe, and one patient died. The investigation examined the care provided to more than 900 patients overall, with many of the reviewed cases involving children who underwent surgery performed by Stohr.

Legal representatives for affected families anticipate the final report will be highly critical. Elizabeth Maliakal from Hudgell Solicitors stated that some of her clients, who are children, underwent major surgery that was not necessary and provided no positive outcome, instead leaving them in pain for extended periods. The firm noted that fatal harm occurred in at least one case, with numerous others experiencing harm.
Stohr was suspended from the hospital and has not worked since March 2024, initially for personal reasons. The trust’s final findings are expected to be released in November, with hospital leadership committing to share results with patients and families prior to public publication. Hospital chief executive Nicola Ayton stated the trust was “deeply sorry” and acknowledged the care fell below expected standards, while pledging to implement changes to prevent similar incidents.
