Peter Jackson’s Weta FX to Talk AI as Netflix’s Creative Asia Spotlights ‘Possible Love’ in Busan

Netflix and the Busan International Film Festival are hosting the third edition of Creative Asia, a program designed to support emerging creators across Asia. The event takes place on Oct. 10 at Dongseo University’s Centum Campus and is organized in partnership with the Asian Film Commissions Network and the Motion Picture Association.

The program introduces workshops for the first time this year, offering aspiring writers the opportunity to engage directly with Netflix content executives. Two workshops are being led by Netflix staff members: Christopher Mack will conduct a session titled “The Art and Archetypes of Cinematic Storytelling,” while Keo Lee will lead “Understanding the Buyer’s Perspective,” which examines how projects receive greenlight approval and financing.

A panel discussion on AI adoption in filmmaking across the Asia-Pacific region will be moderated by film critic Youn Sung-eun and will include participants such as Sung Q Lee from Netflix, Kimball Thurston of Weta FX, and director Kang Yun-sung. Additionally, cinematographer Kim Ji-yong will conduct a masterclass focused on the visual approach used in “Possible Love,” a Venice Film Festival award winner, detailing collaborative decisions made with director Lee Chang-dong.

The masterclass schedule also features sessions on location and storytelling, as well as a discussion on developing unexpected material into compelling narratives led by director Han Jun-hee. An industry panel called “New Voices in Filmmaking: What’s Ahead” will showcase emerging talent including director Namkoong Sun and co-directors Wi Eun-kyoung and Son Gwang-min, whose short film earned the Grand Prize at Korea’s 2026 Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival.

The initiative represents Netflix’s continued expansion of its presence within regional creative communities, building on previous editions held with BIFF and a stop in Indonesia last year.
