Russell Howard 'devastated' after his baby son died hours after birth

Comedian Russell Howard disclosed that his newborn son Felix died hours after his wife Cerys gave birth earlier this year. Howard described the loss as “the most devastating time of our lives” and expressed gratitude for the hospital staff’s support during the period following his son’s death.

In a statement released on Friday, Howard detailed how he and his wife were able to spend time with their son in the hospital using a cool cot, describing those moments as among their most precious memories. He highlighted the role of a bereavement midwife named Lauren, who had experienced a similar tragedy herself and retrained to assist other families facing comparable circumstances.

In response to their experience, Howard and his wife announced the creation of The Felix Foundation, aimed at providing assistance to families affected by miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, neonatal death, and related bereavement. A fundraising event called the Stand-Up Gala is scheduled to take place at London’s O2 Arena in February, featuring performances from numerous comedians including Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Aisling Bea, John Bishop, and Mo Gilligan, all of whom are participating without compensation.

Howard, 46, is a prominent UK stand-up comedian known for appearances on programs including Mock The Week and Russell Howard’s Good News. He and his wife, an NHS doctor, have been together since 2004 and have another son born in August 2024.
