Moveria, a Paris-based production and sales company, has taken on international sales representation for “Will You Still Be My Friend,” a debut feature from Taiwanese filmmaker Lu Po-Shun. The Taiwan-Singapore co-production is scheduled to premiere in the New Directors sidebar at the San Sebastián Film Festival before proceeding to the Busan International Film Festival.
The film centers on two young boys, portrayed by Jaden Wang and Aloysius Looi, whose friendship becomes strained amid escalating tensions between their families and the broader rural community. The narrative follows one boy as he attempts to conceal his bond with his Singapore-raised best friend while navigating family conflict and beginning to question his own feelings. The supporting cast includes Lung Tien Hsiang, Lu Yi-Ching, Andie Chen, Kate Pang, and Xing Chang. The film is also in contention for the Sebastiane Award, which recognizes works engaging with LGBTQIA+ themes.
Yasmin Porangaba, head of sales and acquisition at Moveria, highlighted the dynamic between the two protagonists as central to the project’s appeal, describing their relationship as a private world where they can exist authentically outside the roles imposed by surrounding adults. She noted that the film deliberately refrains from labeling their connection, allowing their bond to remain open to interpretation.
The project was produced by Eric Chou Tseng-Chen and Yu-Hao Su through Taiwan-based InLight Film Studio and Verdant Peak Films. Lu previously earned recognition for his short film “Wild Tides” at the Taipei Film Awards and directed a segment in the 2018 anthology “Ten Years Taiwan.” The producers bring extensive experience in international film sales, acquisitions, and festival circuits, with prior credits including acclaimed independent features.
