The United Nations report warns that no favorable outcomes exist above 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming, with the best-case scenario projecting temperatures peaking at 1.8 degrees. Experts recommend communities conduct comprehensive planning exercises to prepare for extreme scenarios rather than discovering the devastating impacts of severe heat in real time. Without accelerated efforts to reduce fossil fuel consumption and transition to renewable energy sources, adaptation alone cannot prevent severe consequences for global health and ecosystems.
