Unheard Oasis recordings valued at £1.6m set for Evesham auction

An archive of Oasis recordings is being prepared for auction in Worcestershire next month. The collection, valued between £1.2m and £1.6m, comprises recordings of 63 live performances, soundchecks, and more than 100 hours of rehearsal material from the band during the 1990s. The items are known as The Desk Tapes and were compiled by Owain Richards, whose father served as a front-of-house sound engineer for the band during their active years.

The archive will be offered for sale on 3 October through Littleton Auctions, which is managing the sale. The collection includes original setlists, tour itineraries, a band-played Epiphone guitar, and an Oasis tour parka. According to the auction house, the tapes were recorded directly from the sound desk and represent the only master archive of their kind.

Richards has maintained possession of the materials for 20 years following his father’s involvement with the band. The recordings were systematically labeled, documented, and preserved on cassette multiple times to ensure their longevity. Among additional items in the sale is a pair of Adidas Kegler Super Ostrich trainers that were gifted to Noel Gallagher, with only 100 pairs produced in 2000 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Adidas founder Adi Dassler.

Ben Homer, managing director of Littleton Auctions, characterized the collection as one of the most significant assemblages the auction house has handled. The sale will be conducted both online and in person, with prospective bidders required to register and submit a deposit in advance.
