Volvo’s Electric Trucks Win International Truck of the Year 2027 at IAA

Volvo Trucks received the International Truck of the Year 2027 award for its latest electric truck range, which includes the FH Electric, FM Electric, FMX Electric and new FH Aero Electric models. The award, presented during IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, recognizes the range’s extended driving distances, energy efficiency, payload capacity and versatility across various transport applications.

This marks the second time the FH Electric has won the prestigious award, having previously claimed the title in 2024 when it became the first battery-electric truck to receive the honor. The company has begun series production of its next-generation electric trucks, with manufacturing starting on September 14 at its facility in Tuve, Gothenburg, Sweden, with additional production planned in Ghent, Belgium.

The flagship FH Aero Electric model can travel up to 700 kilometers on a single charge thanks to a new e-axle design that accommodates additional battery capacity without enlarging the vehicle. The truck supports megawatt charging, allowing operators to recharge during mandatory driver rest periods. The updated FH, FM and FMX models offer ranges up to 470 kilometers, while a new heavy-duty electric truck combination rated for 80 tonnes gross combination weight is scheduled for market entry in early 2027.

Volvo’s electric truck fleet has accumulated approximately 500 million kilometers since the company introduced its first models in 2019. Nearly 2,000 customers across more than 50 countries currently operate Volvo electric trucks. The company continues developing alternative powertrains, including hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines, while positioning battery-electric technology as a comprehensive solution for long-haul and high-payload freight operations rather than solely for short-distance urban delivery.
