Al Jazeera marked its 30-year anniversary with a comprehensive transformation of its Arabic-language broadcasting operations. The network, which launched on November 1, 1996, has been recognized for reshaping Arab journalism by introducing practices such as breaking news alerts and continuous live coverage that were subsequently adopted by other regional broadcasters.
The restructuring separates the network’s Arabic-language news services across three distinct channels, each with a different editorial focus. Al Jazeera Mubasher will continue providing uninterrupted live event coverage without presenter commentary. A new service called Al Jazeera Now will focus on breaking developments as they occur, operating without scheduled bulletins or fixed programming schedules. The flagship Al Jazeera Arabic channel will maintain news bulletins while emphasizing in-depth analysis and investigative journalism.
Along with the channel restructuring, the network introduced 33 programs under the slogan “Your questions are our questions.” According to network leadership, the new programming will include investigative documentaries, discussions of political and social issues, and historical analyses of current conflicts. The expansion aims to address the growing volume of information available to audiences by providing context and understanding rather than simply delivering news updates.
The network is also strengthening its digital presence through dedicated platforms covering various regions and topics, including a Syria Now platform that has become a primary source for news on Syrian affairs. A cultural initiative called Al Jazeera Cultural is provisionally scheduled for launch in late 2027 to foster debate about Arab cultural and intellectual life.
The transformation includes technological developments announced in December 2025, including The Core, an artificial intelligence initiative developed with Google Cloud. One component, called Orbit, is designed to assist newsroom workflows through monitoring developments, commissioning stories, and managing assignments. Network leadership emphasized that human editorial judgment would remain the primary standard in news operations.
