Alan Dysert, an actor known for his role as Sean Cudahy on the ABC daytime drama All My Children, passed away at age 75. His wife, Michele Dysert, made the announcement of his death on Friday via Facebook.
Dysert was born on June 12, 1951, in Oakwood, Illinois, where he grew up on a farm. He attended Oakwood High School and the University of Illinois before pursuing various careers in real estate and stand-up comedy. His early television appearances included uncredited roles on an episode of ABC’s Soap in 1978 and in Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie released in 1980.
On All My Children, Dysert portrayed the scheming Sean Cudahy, brother of the more respectable character Tom Cudahy played by Richard Shoberg. He first appeared in the role in 1979 and remained with the program until 1981. He later returned to the series for additional appearances between 1988 and 1990. During his initial run on the show, Dysert expressed enthusiasm for his character in a 1981 interview with People magazine, noting that his scenes compared favorably to scripts on evening television programs.
Beyond acting, Dysert built a career in production and directing. He founded The Actor’s School in Nashville in 1991, where he taught acting classes. In 2015, he wrote, directed, produced, and acted in the film The Senator. Dysert had written about his experiences with a rare, aggressive cancer spanning more than a dozen years in his 2023 memoir, Lights, Camera, Cancer!
Dysert is survived by his wife, whom he married in 2008, and his two sons, Cody and Cooper.
