All 5 ‘Hunger Games’ Movies to Be Free on Streaming for First Time

Fandango and Lionsgate have announced a promotional streaming initiative featuring the complete Hunger Games film series on the Fandango at Home platform. The five movies—The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes—will be available for free viewing with advertisements from Friday through Oct. 31. This marks the first time all films have been offered together on-demand through the ad-supported streaming service, though they were previously accessible through a linear stream on an LG pop-up channel.

The availability window is designed to build audience interest and drive ticket sales for the upcoming theatrical release The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, scheduled for Nov. 20. According to Fandango, the films will include what the company describes as limited commercial interruptions. Will McIntosh, president of digital platforms and ventures at Versant, stated that the initiative demonstrates how the platform can support studios in reaching audiences across different stages of the entertainment cycle, from rewatching existing content to generating enthusiasm for new releases.

The Hunger Games franchise has accumulated $3.3 billion in global box office revenue across the five films. The upcoming Sunrise on the Reaping, based on author Suzanne Collins’ novel, focuses on the character Haymitch and the 50th Hunger Games competition, set 24 years before the events of the original film. Joseph Zada plays the younger version of Haymitch, while the film also features Mckenna Grace as tribute Maysilee Donner and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow. The narrative depicts Haymitch’s participation in the arena and his efforts to challenge the Capitol’s control over the Games.
