American Express brings Airbnb bookings and rewards to Amex Travel platform

American Express and Airbnb announced a partnership to integrate Airbnb accommodations into Amex’s travel booking platform. The collaboration brings more than 1 million Airbnb listings to the Amex Travel portal, complementing the company’s existing hotel offerings through its Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection programs.

Cardholders using American Express consumer or business Platinum cards gain access to new benefits under the arrangement. Members can now earn rewards points when booking Airbnb properties through the platform. Additionally, the $600 annual lodging credit available to Platinum cardholders can be applied toward Airbnb Luxe stays, which represent the platform’s premium accommodation tier. After completing a Luxe booking, cardholders also become eligible for a $250 statement credit toward Airbnb Experiences.

Juan David Borrero, head of partnerships at Airbnb, characterized the deal as mutually beneficial, stating both companies aim to enhance travel options and make experiences more rewarding for customers. The partnership reflects intensifying competition within the premium credit card sector, as major issuers seek to differentiate offerings through enhanced travel benefits.

Amex has been expanding its travel-related perks in recent months. Earlier in October, the company announced renovation and expansion plans for its Centurion Lounge network, including upgrades to existing facilities and new locations at Newark Liberty International Airport and London Heathrow Airport. The partnership also arrives amid sustained consumer interest in travel despite elevated costs for airfare, accommodations, and fuel, with recent data suggesting over half of Americans maintained their summer travel plans despite price increases.
