Netflix has greenlit a pilot order for a television series based on Louise Rennison’s young adult novel series “Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging.” The project is being produced by Fifth Season and Rise Films, with production occurring in the U.K.
The pilot represents the second adaptation of Rennison’s “Confessions of Georgia Nicolson” series for the screen. A previous film adaptation titled “Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging” was released in 2008 by Paramount, drawing from the first two books in the series. That film was written and directed by Gurinder Chadha and featured Georgia Groome and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in lead roles.
Monica Heisey is writing the Netflix pilot, with Jim O’Hanlon directing. Additional key personnel include Sam Leifer as executive producer, Jon Jennings as producer, and Rachel Sheridan as casting director. Netflix declined to provide further comment on the pilot order.
The source material follows a British teenager named Georgia who pursues romantic interests while navigating adolescent social dynamics, with support from her family, her cat Angus, and her friend group known as the Ace Gang. The 2008 film adaptation also centered on Georgia’s efforts to win over a new student at her school while contending with a rival who is already dating him.
