Epsilon Film has secured worldwide distribution rights to the animated feature “Apple Cadabra – I Shrunk Myself,” which adapts the “Petronella Applesauce” children’s book series from Germany. The studio plans to present the project to international buyers at the American Film Market, scheduled for Nov. 10-15 in Los Angeles, where footage from the production will be screened.
The film follows two children who become magically reduced in size and enter a miniature world. According to a statement from Epsilon Film, the narrative weaves together fantasy, humor, suspense and adventure while exploring themes of empathy and overcoming prejudice. Alice von Einem, managing director of Epsilon Film, noted that the concept of children experiencing an enchanted garden from a diminished perspective formed the foundation of the project’s appeal, emphasizing the commercial adventure elements alongside universal storytelling about friendship, courage and belonging.
The production brings together filmmaking talent from previous successful projects. Director Ute von Münchow-Pohl and Felix Schichl helm the film, with a screenplay by Claudio Winter and Seraina Nyikos. Oliver Kurth provides character design work. Akkord Film serves as the primary animation studio, supported by co-production partnerships including Seru Animation, PFX, VAST and JewelLabs Pictures. Tobis Film will handle theatrical distribution in Germany. The creative team previously collaborated on animated features including “The Elfkins” and “Rabbit Academy.”
