Banijay Kids & Family Sells ’Little Princess’ to Sky U.K. (EXCLUSIVE)

Banijay Kids & Family has completed several distribution agreements for “Little Princess,” a long-running British animated series aimed at preschool audiences. Sky UK has acquired the complete catalog of the program, which consists of four seasons totaling 135 episodes. The broadcaster also secured all specials associated with the series.

Additional deals for the animated program have been established with European partners. Nordisk Film obtained rights to Seasons 1-3 and series specials for streaming distribution across Nordic territories. RTV Slovenia acquired Seasons 1-2 for its platform, while Telecom Italia’s TIMVision secured Italian streaming rights. The series, which is a four-time BAFTA nominee, is based on children’s books by author and illustrator Tony Ross.

“Little Princess” originally premiered on the U.K.’s Channel 4 children’s programming block “Milkshake” in 2006 and completed its broadcast run in 2020. The program initially aired in approximately 140 territories during its linear television phase. The series has maintained audience engagement through YouTube and other digital platforms since 2008, indicating sustained appeal beyond traditional broadcast windows.

The show is produced by The Illuminated Film Company, which also creates “The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories” and the award-winning “The Rubbish World of Dave Spud.” Julia Rowlands, Senior Vice President of Sales, Co-Productions and Acquisitions at Banijay Kids & Family, noted that the series demonstrates the commercial viability of established intellectual property in competitive media markets. Banijay Kids & Family is part of a larger production group encompassing multiple studios and managing children’s programming franchises including “Totally Spies!” and “Mr Bean.”
