Charlie Cox to Lead ‘The King’s Ransom’ Play in London

Charlie Cox, known for his role in “Daredevil,” will return to the London stage this winter to headline “The King’s Ransom,” a new theatrical production written by Stuart Slade. The play will have its world premiere at the Donmar Warehouse, one of London’s prominent theater venues.

“The King’s Ransom” takes place in 1977 Memphis and follows Vince Black, portrayed by Cox, a low-level criminal presented with an unusual criminal proposition. The central premise involves assembling a team to attempt an audacious theft: kidnapping Elvis Presley’s corpse, placing it in a freezer, and demanding a million-dollar ransom. The supporting cast features Blake Harrison from “The Inbetweeners” as Rusty, along with Tom Fletcher, Matthew Flynn, Leo Patrick, Jenny Rainsford, Christopher Short, Cherrelle Skeete, and Ronnie Yorke in various roles, with Ruby Barker, Eira Kay, and Trixie Willis sharing the part of Martha.

Matthew Dunster, who has directed productions including “2:22: A Ghost Story” and “The Hunger Games on Stage,” will direct the production. The play is scheduled to begin previews on Dec. 5, with its official opening on Dec. 16 and a closing date of Feb. 6, 2027.

Cox has prior experience at the Donmar Warehouse, having performed in “The Prince of Homburg” in 2010. He has also appeared in notable theatrical productions including a West End revival of Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal” in 2019, which he subsequently brought to Broadway.

The creative team includes set designer Anna Fleischle, costume designer Jean Chan, lighting designer Sally Ferguson, sound designer Holly Khan, and additional specialists in design and production.
