‘Civics Made Easy’ Renewed for Season 2 by PBS (Exclusive)

PBS has greenlighted a second season of Civics Made Easy, the Webby Award-winning educational series hosted by author Ben Sheehan. The renewal announcement was made by The Hollywood Reporter, with the new season launching on Wednesday across PBS member stations, the PBS app, PBS.org and YouTube.

The eight-episode season will air through January 2027 and will examine various aspects of American civics and political structures. Topics for the upcoming season include assessments of whether the United States functions as a true democracy, explanations of partisan gerrymandering and its legal status, state-level governmental authority, constitutional rights protections, proposals for federal term and age limits, the Supreme Court’s shadow docket procedures, church-state separation doctrine, and educational policy decision-making processes.

Sheehan, who also writes and executive produces the series, stated that the show aims to address pressing contemporary political questions while making government systems accessible to general audiences. He emphasized that civic understanding extends beyond classroom settings and into everyday public discourse, and that greater knowledge of governmental mechanisms enables citizens to participate more effectively in the democratic process.

PBS leadership praised the series’ reception among viewers. Margaret Ebrahim, senior director of multiplatform programming at PBS, noted strong engagement from both stations and audiences nationwide and highlighted Sheehan’s ability to present civics content in an engaging rather than intimidating manner. Second Peninsula produces the series, with creative direction from Steve Goldbloom. The production team includes executive producers Melissa Williams and Julie Hermelin, producers Ana Dávila and Summer Mastain, and various editorial and creative staff members.
