Disney+ Taps Amazon Exec Philip Pratt to Oversee Germany, Switzerland and Austria Originals

Philip Pratt, currently serving as head of original productions at Amazon MGM Studios, has been appointed to a vice president position at Disney+ focused on original content development across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Pratt will report to Angela Jain, who oversees EMEA content for the streaming service. He is expected to begin his role at Disney+ early next year.

Pratt brings over a decade of experience at Amazon MGM Studios, where he has overseen Prime Video’s German original productions. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in developing several successful series including the young adult drama “Maxton Hall,” the comedy program “LOL: Last One Laughing,” and the reality competition series “The 50.” His background in European production is expected to inform his work at Disney+.

Disney+ has been building its local originals portfolio in the German-speaking markets since 2021, accumulating more than 30 nominations and 13 wins at various German and international awards. The service has previously released original content including “Sam A Saxon,” the drama “The Interpreter of Silence,” and the award-winning series “Call my Agent Berlin.” Several projects are currently in development, including “Vienna Game,” “Nele Neuhaus Monster,” “Westwell,” and the Swiss production “Under The Ice.”

Under the leadership of CEO Josh D’Amaro, Disney has committed to substantially increasing investment in global Disney+ series, with plans to triple the volume of international productions. This expansion includes projects from multiple European countries, such as Poland’s “Breslau 2,” the United Kingdom’s “Mosquito,” and Italy’s “Murder on Lake Garda.”
