The BBC announced on Tuesday that the third installment of its acclaimed Blue Planet series will feature an original composition by composer Hans Zimmer and vocalist Jade Thirlwall, formerly of the group Little Mix. The track, titled “Into the Deep (Seas Cry),” premiered on BBC Radio 1 following the official announcement.
The six-episode program is set to air on BBC One, iPlayer, and BBC America later this year. The series marks a significant return to the long-running franchise, arriving 25 years after the original Blue Planet captured widespread international audiences. David Attenborough, who recently turned 100 earlier this year, will continue in his role as narrator for the new installment.
Zimmer collaborated on the song with Jade and Thom Lukas from Zimmer’s production company, Bleeding Fingers Music. The composition was developed specifically for the series following an extensive production process spanning approximately four and a half years by the BBC Studios Natural History Unit.
This partnership extends the established relationship between Zimmer’s team and BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, which has previously commissioned original music from prominent artists including Radiohead, Sia, Raye, Camila Cabello, and Seventeen for earlier nature documentaries and soundtracks.
Thirlwall expressed enthusiasm about the project, citing her longtime admiration for the Blue Planet series and describing her involvement as a special privilege. The song is now available across streaming platforms as part of the Blue Planet III soundtrack.
