Keanu Reeves in Talks to Star in James Wan’s ‘The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil’ at Paramount

Keanu Reeves has entered negotiations to join director James Wan for a Paramount Pictures adaptation of “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil,” a remake of the 2019 Korean action-crime thriller. Don Lee, who starred in the original film, is attached to reprise his role opposite Reeves. The source material follows a police officer and gangster who form an unlikely alliance to pursue a serial killer. The original production earned critical acclaim when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Wan will helm the project, marking his first feature directorial effort since “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” in 2023. The production team includes an extensive roster of producers: Michael Clear and Jason Blum through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Don Lee’s Big Punch Global, Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller via Balboa Productions, Chris S. Lee through B&C Group, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The screenplay was penned by Eric Pearson, building on earlier drafts by Shay Hatten and Brian Helgeland, who will executive produce along with Billy Acumen.

Development on the project commenced in 2019, with Wan joining the production this spring. Reeves brings extensive experience in action filmmaking, having anchored major franchises including “The Matrix” and “John Wick” series. Most recently, he appeared in AppleTV’s dramedy “Outcome” directed by Jonah Hill and provided voice work for “Toy Story 5” as Duke Caboom. Upcoming, he will reprise his voice role as Shadow in “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” scheduled for release March 19, 2027 through Paramount.
