LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn have been cast in Molepeople, a horror feature developed through a partnership between Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Primal. Paramount will serve as the worldwide distributor for the film, with both companies providing financing and production support. The project is scheduled for theatrical release on Aug. 27, 2027.
Rob Savage, whose film Other Mommy is opening this weekend, is directing the horror thriller from a script by Nathan Elston. The narrative follows a protagonist who ventures into the abandoned tunnel systems beneath New York City, encountering an unusual civilization that exists underground. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of November or in early December, with filming taking place in the UK.
The producing team includes Jason Blum, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules, and James Harris, with executive producers Ryan Turek, Tracy Rosenblum, Elston, and Savage. Molepeople was initially developed as an independent production before transitioning to Paramount following Lifshitz and Margules’ establishment of the Primal genre label.
Stanfield recently completed work on Boots Riley’s I Love Boosters and appeared opposite Mark Wahlberg in Amazon’s Play Dirty. Mendelsohn recently participated in the Venice Film Festival premiere of Company, a thriller directed by Casey Affleck that also features Scoot McNairy in its cast.
