Meta open sources code to let you make Muse AI gadgets

Meta has made its Muse artificial intelligence agent available for developers to integrate into custom-built hardware devices through open source code and software development kits. The company describes these as “Muse gadgets,” which users can construct independently by programming off-the-shelf microcontroller boards or single-board computers and connecting them to various display devices, input controls, sensors, and other electronic components.

The company outlined several potential applications for the open source implementation. These include deploying Muse on color electronic ink displays to provide reminders and notifications, integrating the agent into HDMI-compatible streaming devices for large-screen deployment, or loading it onto small touchscreen interfaces to create devices similar in form factor to Meta’s existing Muse Charm product.

Meta has simultaneously unveiled its own hardware implementation called the Muse Home Link gadget, which the company engineered and plans to distribute at no cost. The device leverages community-developed skills and capabilities to enable users to control smart home functions such as lighting systems, television operation, document printing, and other connected devices within their home setup. The company manufactured 5,000 units of the Muse Home Link, according to executives from Meta Superintelligence Labs, and has opened registration for a waitlist to claim one, with distribution scheduled to commence later this month.

Meta emphasized that developers building their own Muse gadgets should proceed with caution, noting that such projects carry inherent risks associated with custom hardware development and integration.
