Microsoft is giving Copilot more control over Windows and your files

Microsoft announced enhancements to its Copilot AI assistant during a Windows and Surface event, introducing capabilities that blend local and cloud-based AI models to execute tasks more effectively. The company branded this approach “Hybrid Intelligence,” positioning it as a method to optimize performance by leveraging both on-device and remote processing.

During a demonstration, Microsoft’s executive vice president of Copilot, Jacob Andreou, showcased how the enhanced system could handle complex workflows. In the example, Autopilot was tasked with assisting with tax filing after receiving an email from an accountant. The AI agent then performed multiple steps autonomously: locating relevant documents across various folders on the user’s computer, reorganizing and renaming files, creating a compressed archive, and composing an email message with the compressed folder attached for transmission to the accountant.

Microsoft indicated that Copilot features powered by Hybrid Intelligence will begin rolling out over the next couple of months. In a related announcement, the company unveiled an upgraded Windows search interface designed to enable quick actions directly from the search bar, including system adjustments such as enabling dark mode, modifying microphone volume through an integrated slider, and sending text messages. Windows and Surface executive Pavan Davuluri stated that this new search experience will become available starting this fall on Windows 11 devices.

These updates represent Microsoft’s continued expansion of AI integration throughout its Windows ecosystem, aiming to automate routine tasks and streamline user workflows through both local and cloud-based intelligence systems.
