Paris-based MK2 Films announced the acquisition of three short films during the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, broadening its collection beyond established feature works. The acquisitions include Brady Corbet’s “Protect You + Me” from 2008, Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “South of Tehran,” and Céline Sciamma’s “Tutti Frutti.”
According to Frédérique Rouault, head of collections at MK2 Films, the shorts complement the company’s existing feature catalog and provide alternative angles on the directors’ creative approaches. The shorts are intended to create programming opportunities for festivals and cinemas, giving audiences access to lesser-known works by influential contemporary directors.
Sciamma’s “Tutti Frutti” is a 44-minute work drawing on personal footage shot since 2022 that explores solitary filmmaking practices. The piece was commissioned by Centre Pompidou and premiered in Paris in June, subsequently winning the Jury Prize at the Villa Medici Film Festival. MK2 Films already represented Sciamma’s complete feature filmography and her 2023 short “This Is How a Child Becomes a Poet.”
Mendonça Filho’s nine-minute “South of Tehran” features filmmaker Jafar Panahi discussing his initial cinema experiences. Shot during the New York Film Festival in 2025, the project emerged from conversations between the two directors and served as the inaugural entry in NYFF Encounters, an annual commissioning program. Corbet’s “Protect You + Me,” shot by cinematographer Darius Khondji, predates his directorial breakthrough with “The Brutalist” and received recognition at Sundance in 2009.
These acquisitions join other recent catalog additions including work by Jia Zhangke and early films from Palme d’Or-winning brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, obtained through a new partnership with their production company Les Films du Fleuve.
