NBC has commissioned supplemental scripts for the drama series Line of Fire as the network evaluates potential expansion of its first season.
The order covers five additional scripts for the program, which centers on the Hollingsworth family, a group of federal law enforcement agents who become targets of an unknown threat. The creator and showrunner Joshua Safran developed the concept following previous work on Gossip Girl and Quantico. The cast includes Peter Krause, Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom and Charlie Barnett.
Line of Fire originally received a 13-episode series order. The supplemental script commission provides the potential framework for expansion to 18 total episodes if NBC decides to green-light additional production. The network emphasized that the script order does not guarantee a pickup of produced episodes, though the move reflects traditional broadcast television practices that NBC has recently employed.
The series premiered Sept. 21 and has generated 12 million viewers across platform metrics including broadcast and repeat airings. The Monday 10 p.m. time slot performance showed improvement compared to the same period during the 2025-26 season, with same-day viewership reaching 2.98 million—a 34 percent increase over Brilliant Minds in the comparable slot from the prior year. Cross-platform measurement over three days showed a 47 percent advantage.
Universal Television produces the series, with Safran serving as executive producer alongside Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector.
