Noel Gallagher guitar sells for £12,000 at Oasis auction

An auction of music memorabilia in Worcestershire included items from the personal collection of Huw Richards, a former sound engineer with the band Oasis. The sale featured a Manchester City blue Epiphone guitar manufactured in 1997, which fetched £12,000. According to the auctioneer, the instrument was one of five identical guitars given to Noel Gallagher by the manufacturer before being passed to Richards.

Other items from Richards’ collection that sold included a Kangol rain jacket used by band touring personnel for £2,000, and 11 framed platinum discs recognizing United Kingdom sales exceeding 3.3 million copies of the album What’s the Story Morning Glory, which also sold for £2,000. Additional memorabilia such as tour itineraries, promotional materials, and a Be Here Now wrist watch were also included in the auction.

Several other sellers offered Oasis-related items in the same auction. Notable sales included an early demo tape at £3,600, a collection of early band photographs at £5,400, and a rare original concert ticket for The Rain, the Manchester group that eventually became Oasis, which sold for £2,400. Leather shoes formerly belonging to Noel Gallagher fetched £1,200.

A significant portion of the auction was disrupted when Oasis filed an injunction against the sale of The Desk Tapes, a collection of unreleased recordings valued between £1.2 million and £1.6 million. The collection comprises recordings of 63 live shows, soundchecks, and more than 100 hours of rehearsals from the band’s activities during the 1990s. Littleton Auctions agreed to postpone the sale of these recordings pending resolution of the legal dispute.

A baby grand piano featured in the artwork for the single Supersonic, valued between £100,000 and £150,000, failed to sell during the auction.
