Oasis take legal action to stop sale of unheard recordings valued at more than £1m

A collection of previously unreleased Oasis material has been withdrawn from auction following legal action taken by the band. The recordings, compiled by the group’s former sound engineer Huw Richards, were set to be sold in early October through Littleton Auctions in Worcestershire, England, with an estimated value between £1.2 million and £1.6 million.

The archive consists of 209 DAT tapes, 73 analogue cassettes, and three MiniDiscs containing 63 live performances, hours of rehearsal sessions, and private conversations between band members Noel and Liam Gallagher. Richards worked with Oasis from the release of their 1994 debut album through 2001. The collection was being offered for sale by Richards’ son, Owain Richards, who is also a sound engineer.

Littleton Auctions confirmed the withdrawal in a statement, noting that the decision came in response to legal proceedings initiated by Oasis. The auction house’s managing director expressed disappointment at being unable to proceed with the sale as scheduled. Owain Richards acknowledged the dispute, stating that Oasis have sued both him and his father to prevent the auction, and that both parties have agreed to postpone the sale to allow time for resolution through legal channels or negotiation.

The auction house stated that the remainder of the sale, scheduled for October 3, will proceed as planned. Other items available include music memorabilia such as an original Kangol Oasis tour jacket from Richards’ collection, signed Nirvana photographs, Rolling Stones autographs, and a guitar signed by Brian May. The band declined to offer additional comment on the proceedings at this time.
