Lyrical Animation announced the development of an animated series inspired by “RuneScape” during a presentation at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK, on Saturday. The project represents a collaborative effort between the animation studio, game developer Jagex, and content creator Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White, whose Meatier Productions will also contribute to the effort. The series aims to adapt the fantasy world of Gielinor, the setting of the long-running multiplayer online role-playing game.
Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy stated that the initiative reflects the company’s broader strategy to develop “RuneScape” properties beyond interactive gaming platforms. Bellamy noted that the game’s player community has contributed to shaping the world’s narrative and characters over decades, and the company sees potential in reaching both existing players and new audiences through animation. The executive emphasized that the project remains in early development stages.
White, who has cultivated an audience of more than 25 million followers across various platforms, has been engaged with the “RuneScape” community for an extended period. He expressed enthusiasm about collaborating on the project, citing his longtime enjoyment of the intellectual property. Daniel Dominguez, creative director at Lyrical Animation, highlighted the source material’s distinctive tone and narrative style as factors that attracted the studio to the adaptation.
The “RuneScape” franchise, which originated in 2001, currently encompasses multiple titles including the original game, “Old School RuneScape,” and “RuneScape Dragonwilds.” Jagex indicated that additional information regarding the animation project will be disclosed in 2027.
