Service increases access to mental health support in East Yorkshire

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced expanded access to mental health support services through its Wellbeing for Us programme, which is designed to serve residents aged 18 and over. The initiative aims to help individuals manage their mental health challenges while building confidence, establishing meaningful social connections, and reducing feelings of isolation.

The programme offers multiple forms of support, including face-to-face workshops and informal peer support social groups that address various aspects of mental wellbeing. Topics covered by the service span managing anxiety and stress, as well as building self-esteem. Beyond the direct offerings, the council stated that the programme works to connect residents with broader support systems, including community organizations, NHS referrals, and other health services.

Workshops are currently being delivered on a rolling basis across eight locations in the region: Withernsea, Hornsea, Bridlington, Beverley, Driffield, Pocklington, Goole, and Hessle. Drop-in sessions are available in Goole and at Lelley Fields Crematorium. Informal peer support social groups are also operating in Goole and at Lelley Fields Crematorium, with the council indicating that additional groups will be launched in the future.

The council is promoting the programme as World Mental Health Day approaches, encouraging residents to take advantage of the free resources available to them.
