East Riding of Yorkshire Council is encouraging residents to utilize its Wellbeing for Us programme, a free mental health support service designed for people aged 18 and over. The initiative aims to assist individuals experiencing mental health challenges and wellbeing concerns by fostering confidence, establishing meaningful social connections, and reducing feelings of isolation.
The programme provides multiple forms of support to participants. These include face-to-face workshops and informal peer support social groups addressing various mental health topics. Subject matter covered within the programme encompasses techniques for managing anxiety and stress, as well as methods for enhancing self-esteem. Beyond these direct services, the programme also connects residents with additional resources and professional support options available through community organisations, NHS referral pathways, and other health services.
Currently, workshops are being delivered on a rolling basis across several locations throughout East Yorkshire. These include Withernsea, Hornsea, Bridlington, Beverley, Driffield, Pocklington, Goole, and Hessle. Drop-in sessions are accessible in Goole and at Lelley Fields Crematorium. Informal peer support social groups are operating in Goole and at Lelley Fields Crematorium, with the council indicating plans for additional groups in other areas.
The council’s promotion of these services coincides with World Mental Health Day, which takes place on 10 October. The timing of the campaign reflects increased efforts to raise awareness about mental health resources and encourage eligible residents to seek support.
