Seventeen’s Jeonghan and Joshua Find Their JxJ Duo Sound on ‘Dreamscape’: ‘Right in the Middle Between Strong and Subtle’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Jeonghan and Joshua of the K-pop group Seventeen have launched their collaborative project JxJ with the album ‘Dreamscape,’ marking their first full project together as a duo. While the two have shared a spotlight with 11 other bandmates in Seventeen for over a decade, this album represents their first opportunity to work exclusively as a pair. Jeonghan recently returned from completing South Korea’s mandatory military service, while Joshua spent the same period producing music independently.

The decision to create JxJ came as Seventeen management sought ways to continue delivering new content to fans while several members fulfill military obligations. With six members currently serving and two additional members, Seungkwan and Dino, set to enlist on Oct. 26, the active lineup has been reduced to five. Joshua explained that the company initially proposed the collaboration, and the pair saw it as a chance to showcase different aspects of themselves beyond what they present as part of the larger group.

The creative process revealed different artistic perspectives between the two members. Joshua advocated for a subtle, mature sound, while Jeonghan leaned toward showcasing a stronger presence. This creative tension resulted in the title track ’12 O’Clock,’ a dance-rock composition that blends both sensibilities and incorporates influences from 1970s and 1980s disco and funk. Joshua contributed production work and songwriting credits to the project, including co-writing his solo track ‘Not Personal’ and providing lyrics for the closer ‘No Looking Back,’ while Jeonghan co-wrote lyrics for his solo piece ‘Coloring.’

The seven-track album spans multiple genres, opening with a house track and progressing through R&B and soul before concluding with a raw band sound. Jeonghan noted that this stylistic variety creates a dreamlike, immersive quality to the record. He emphasized that his time in military service influenced his approach to the music, with themes of warmth and consideration toward others woven throughout the work. Joshua highlighted his surprise at Jeonghan’s detailed planning regarding concert choreography and stage performance concepts, indicating collaborative depth beyond the studio recordings.
