Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey released its annual report detailing the organization’s activities throughout 2025 and its progress during a five-year strategic period spanning 2021 to 2025. The report documents a substantial increase in demand for mental health and wellness services among individuals affected by cancer in the region.
According to the charity’s findings, counselling and higher-level emotional support sessions experienced significant growth during the reporting period, rising from 407 sessions in 2021 to 835 sessions in 2025, representing a 105% increase. Complementary therapy offerings showed even more dramatic expansion, climbing from 405 sessions in 2021 to 965 sessions in 2025, an increase of 138%. Throughout 2025 alone, the organization delivered 4,253 support sessions to individuals affected by cancer, while 308 people accessed its drop-in cancer support and wellbeing center without requiring a formal referral.
Steph Gibaut, chief executive officer of Macmillan Jersey, emphasized the personal impact of the organization’s work, stating that each statistic represents individuals and families for whom support proved meaningful. She highlighted the charity’s efforts to transform its approach to cancer care delivery by identifying needs at earlier stages, offering more individualized support, and expanding the range of emotional, practical, and wellbeing services available.
During the five-year strategy period, the charity generated £4.38m in total income and invested £3.44m in service development and delivery. A notable programmatic development involved the introduction and formal launch of holistic needs assessments, which had previously undergone piloting. These assessments identify patients’ physical, emotional, practical, and financial needs early in their cancer experience to facilitate personalized care planning.
Looking forward, Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey announced a new strategic direction for 2026 to 2030 that will prioritize expanding emotional support services, wellbeing initiatives, and group programming while extending assistance to individuals living with and beyond cancer. The organization noted that while celebrating recent achievements, it recognizes that demand continues to increase and patient needs continue to evolve.
