World’s largest contract chipmaker TSMC sees August revenue surge over 53% to record high

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. announced record monthly revenue for August, posting $514.8 billion New Taiwan dollars, equivalent to $16.35 billion, representing a 53.3% increase compared to the same period last year and a 10.1% rise from the previous month. The results reflected sustained demand for semiconductors used in artificial intelligence applications.

TSMC’s monthly revenue has increased for four consecutive months heading into the release. The company previously stated during its second-quarter earnings call that AI-related demand remained “extremely robust.” In that quarter, TSMC reported a profit surge exceeding 77% year-on-year and provided third-quarter revenue guidance between $44.6 billion and $45.8 billion.

The chipmaker has solidified its position as the global foundry market leader with a 72.5% market share during the second quarter, according to data released by research firm TrendForce. The company’s advanced 5-, 4-, and 3-nanometer manufacturing capacity remained fully booked during the period as AI server processor demand remained elevated. Samsung Foundry held the second position with 5.9% share, while China’s SMIC captured 5.4%.

The top 10 global foundries collectively generated record combined revenue approaching $53.49 billion in the second quarter, bolstered partly by supply constraints affecting advanced processes required for AI and high-performance computing processors. Separately, TSMC and Dutch equipment supplier ASML unveiled an initiative this week aimed at accelerating industry advancement in next-generation chipmaking technology. TSMC indicated plans to incorporate ASML’s High NA technology in large-scale manufacturing for advanced nodes beginning in 2030, with adoption expected to expand as AI applications demand increasingly intricate transistor designs.
