Hibernian secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie, moving off the foot of the Scottish Premiership standings and above their hosts on goal difference.
Jamie McGrath provided the opening goal with a well-struck effort just before the hour mark, firing a left-footed shot into the top-right corner from 25 yards out. Substitute Callum Wright doubled the advantage with 10 minutes remaining, directing his shot into an empty net. Nicky Cadden and Thibault Klidje completed the rout with late goals, with Klidje’s finish coming in stoppage time from a Wright cross.
The two sides arrived at the match having experienced contrasting results in the previous week’s Premier Sports Cup semi-finals. Hibernian came from behind to defeat Edinburgh rivals Hearts 2-1, while Aberdeen suffered a late defeat to Rangers. Both squads made lineup adjustments for this fixture, with Aberdeen rotating several players due to illness and injury, while Hibernian’s only enforced change saw left-back Adam Mayor drop out, though captain Felix Passlack subsequently sustained an injury within the opening 10 minutes.
Aberdeen initially dominated proceedings and created several scoring opportunities throughout the first half, though Hibernian goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger made key saves to keep the contest level at the interval. The home side’s pressure failed to translate into goals, and McGrath’s clinical finish in the second half shifted momentum decisively in Hibernian’s favor. The emphatic nature of the defeat prompted strong reactions from the home crowd toward Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson.
With the victory, Hibernian climbed the table standings while Aberdeen remained in a lower position. Had Aberdeen won, they could have risen to eighth place in the standings, while Hibernian had sought to draw level with their hosts prior to kickoff.
